The Story Behind the Promise
A monthly commitment turns fear into hope, isolation into community, and potential into purpose.
There is a moment every parent and mentor in Tallahassee knows. It is the hour between school ending and a parent getting home. The walk home that takes a little too long. The group of young men on the corner who look like opportunity to a bored boy but feel like danger to the adults who love him.
We call it the quiet hour. It is not loud on the evening news. It does not trend on social media. But it is the hour where too many futures are quietly lost.
At the Alpha Educational & Leadership Foundation, we built the K.O.Y.A. campaign to fill that hour with something stronger than fear. Keep Our Youth Alive is not a slogan. It is a strategy. It is a promise. And it is a monthly commitment from people like you who believe that a young man's life is worth more than a headline.

From the Corner to the Classroom
Marcus was fourteen. Smart. Funny. Quick to defend his friends. He had every quality a leader needs, except one: he had never been told he was one.
His grandmother worked two jobs. His father was incarcerated. The men who paid him attention were not the ones who asked about his GPA. By the time a school counselor referred him to AELF, he was one absence away from failing and one summer away from becoming a statistic he had already seen too many times.
That first Saturday at Alpha Rise Academy changed the math. A mentor sat with him. Not to lecture. To listen. To ask what he wanted. To show him that de-escalation is a skill, not weakness, and that communication is a tool stronger than any fist.
Today, Marcus is a senior. He has a part-time internship, a college application list, and a younger brother he walks through the same doors he almost never entered. He is not an exception. He is the outcome when a community decides to keep a young man alive.

The Numbers Are Not the Whole Story, But They Demand Our Attention
Leon County youth face some of the highest risk factors in the state for school disruption, violence exposure, and justice system contact.
A young man without a mentor is more likely to disconnect from school, employment, and civic life.
The hours between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM are when risky behavior peaks and positive programs are least available.
A single intervention can change a trajectory for decades, affecting siblings, families, and neighborhoods.
The Alpha Educational & Leadership Foundation does not wait for a crisis to respond. We build relationships before the system labels a child. We show up before the quiet hour becomes the last hour. We lead with love, discipline, and a belief that every young man is capable of greatness when the village around him expects it.

We are not asking for a fortune. We are asking for faith. A monthly gift of $25, $50, or $100 says that you believe in Marcus and the young men who will become the next Marcus. It says that keeping our youth alive is worth a recurring line item in your budget, right next to the gym, the streaming service, and the coffee you trust without thinking.
Monthly giving is powerful because it is predictable. It lets us plan, hire mentors, buy materials, and keep the doors open on the Saturdays when a young man needs us most.
Stand with members, donors and friends keeping our youth alive.

We keep our youth alive because they are our future leaders, fathers, professionals, and neighbors.
The work is not easy. It is not always visible. But when a young man walks across a graduation stage, lands his first job, or chooses peace over conflict, the whole community rises. That is the return on your investment. That is why we keep going. That is why we are asking you to join us.
